KUPWARA: The Cricket Championship is going on with great zeal at Kupwara with people turning up in great numbers at the venues, enjoying the game with great enthusiasm.
As many as 150 teams are participating at 4 designated venues in the Cricket Championship which was kick-started on 9th of this month. The District Youth Services & Sports Officer (DYSSO), Zahoor Ahmad Wani, informed that 55, 44, 28 and 27 teams are participating at Galizoo Stadium Kupwara, Sports Stadium Langate, Cricket Stadium Haqaniabad and Cricket Stadium Chamkoot respectively.
The venues were designated with the view to cater to the needs of sports loving fraternity of the youth hailing from every nook and corner of the district.
In the ongoing competition, 83 matches have been played so far. The championship is being carried out on a knock-out basis under the supervision of DYSSO.
In a fervent display of determination and skill, all the designated venues are bursting into life as the players from all teams converge to prepare for their matches at their respective venues. Despite the cold season prevailing in the valley, the venues are reverberating with cheers and the palpable excitement of both players and spectators alike.
The event is aimed at nurturing sports talent and fostering camaraderie among the youth in addition to preventing the young generation from being trapped in social evils.
Two matches are being carried out on a daily basis at all the venues subject to weather conditions. The man of the match of every competition is being felicitated with a trophy at all the venues.
The DYSSO is also visiting all the designated venues to supervise the progress of the competition and take it to its logical conclusion.
