Government Polytechnic Jammu organises seminar on Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace

JAMMU: Government Polytechnic Jammu organized a seminar on “Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace” for the female faculty, staff and studentswith an objective to ensure a safe, secure and gender neutral campus. The resource person for the seminar was Ms. Shaheen Wahid, SP South Jammu.

The session began with the address by Arun Bangotra Principal, Government Polytechnic Jammu. He addressed that sexual harassment at workplace does not only cause both mental and physical damage to the person harassed but also leads to a less effective and discriminatory work environment. He stressed upon addressing such incidents and reporting them at the right time.

In her address Shaheen Wahid covered the aspects related to hearing and addressing complaints regarding sexual harassment and spreading awareness about gender related issues and functioning of the Internal Complaints Committee.

She talked about Sexual Harassment of Workplace Act, 2013 and the timelines and pit stops for ICC. She explained how a person’s body language plays an important role in understanding what he or she feels. The speaker explained the process of filing complaints at Police Stations and at the same time encouraged to always report and speak up for oneself if such an incident occurs.
