CUJ Empowers Students through Community Outreach Initiatives

JAMMU: The Department of Educational Studies, Central University of Jammu on Thursday organised a community outreach program for the students   pursuing Master of Education (M.Ed.) program in the third semester, at Jammu Institute of General Education and Rehabilitation (JIGER). JIGER is a notable Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) with a specific focus on offering free education, grooming, encouragement, and empowerment to disabled and underprivileged children from all sections of society.

The program took place at JIGER NGO in Gangyal, which was led by Nari Shakti Awardee Sandhya Dhar.

These community outreach programmes are being organsied by the University with the vision and support of Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor, CUJ. He encouraged the departments to arrange such field visits so that students can get real experience form the ground.

The event commenced with an introduction and briefing by Dr. Kiran- Assistant Professor setting the stage for the students’ visit. Students had the opportunity to interact with Sandhya Dhar and the dedicated staff of JIGER, as well as engage with the beneficiaries, comprising marginalized and disabled children and women.

Dhar provided a comprehensive overview of JIGER’s mission, emphasizing their commitment to the welfare and education of these underprivileged groups. She also shared inspiring success stories from JIGER’s initiatives, shedding light on the organization’s impactful work. The students actively participated by asking questions and seeking clarification on various aspects, which Dhar graciously addressed.

Prof. Asit Mantry, Head of the Education Department said that to visit various educational institutions is an integral part of the teacher education programmes such as four-year Integrated B.A.B.Ed. and M.Ed. being run by the Central University of Jammu.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks extended by Monika, Research Scholar. This community outreach initiative provided valuable insights into JIGER’s commendable efforts and motivated the students to consider how they can contribute to the cause and strengthen JIGER’s outreach in the community.
