SAMBA: A remarkable event unfolded today as Abhishek Sharma, Deputy Commissioner Samba, inaugurated a Sale cum Exhibition of Handlooms and Handicrafts products at Dina Nath Memorial Hall (Mahajan Hall).
The event was organized by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, and the Handicrafts Service Centre, Jammu.
The Deputy Commissioner was the chief guest, while Senior Superintendent of Police, Benam Tosh was the Guest of Honour. The event brought together 25 talented artisans and weavers from different parts of the Jammu province, who showcased their products for sale.
The first of its kind event organized in Samba, the exhibition will continue for a period of seven days from 25th October 2023 to 31st October 2023. It is dedicated to showcase the rich heritage of handicraft and handloom products from the region, encompassing major crafts like Hand Block Printing, Bamboo Craft, Grass Reef, Jute Craft, Soft Toys, Ceramic Work, and Embroidery and Crochet Craft.
The primary objective of this event is to provide the much-needed platform to the local artisans, especially in unexplored and uncovered districts of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
The welcome address was presented by Anirudh Kapil, Assistant Director, Handicrafts Service Centre, Jammu, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Pawan Raina, Assistant Director.
The inauguration program was conducted by Ambika Sambyal, Assistant Director (A&C) and it was a resounding success.
