SRINAGAR: Northern Railways is gearing up to launch the state-of-the-art all-weather glass-ceiling AC train Vistadome in Kashmir on October 19.

A top railway official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that this impressive train, manufactured by Indian Railways, is designed to enhance the travel experience for passengers, both locals and tourists. He said the inauguration of this facility will be carried out by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Srinagar railway station on October 19.

The Northern Railways previously conducted a successful trial run months ago, covering the route from Budgam to Baramulla, official said, adding that the Vistadome coach is set to operate on the scenic railway track from Budgam to Banihal while key stops along the journey will include Budgam, Srinagar, Awantipora, Anantnag, Qazigund, and Banihal.

“The Vistadome boasts a single 40-seat AC coach with features like large glass windows, LED lights, rotatable seats, and an inbuilt GPS-based information system. Passengers will enjoy breath-taking views through the glass roof as they traverse the picturesque Kashmir Valley,” he said.

The coaches also come equipped with automatic sliding doors and safety features such as CCTV cameras, he said, adding that the introduction of this glass-ceiling train aims to promote tourism in the Kashmir valley. “It will provide travellers with a unique and comfortable way to experience the region’s beauty, from snow-covered mountains in winter to vibrant saffron fields in summer and golden Chinar leaves in autumn,” officials said.

Vistadome train is well-prepared for the region’s diverse weather conditions, offering air conditioning to ensure comfort in both extreme cold and hot summers, he added.
