Government Polytechnic Jammu organises Chess Tournament

JAMMU: The Sports Wing of Government Polytechnic Jammu organised an Inter Department “Chess Tournament “in the Conference Hall of the Institute today.

Forty students from eight departments of Automobile Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engg, Architecture Assistantship, Travel & Tourism, Instrumentation & Control, Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering Department participated in the Inter -Department Tournament competition in the first stage and the final stage tournament was held today. The Principal, Er. Arun Bangotra was Chief Guest at the felicitation function of Inter Department Chess Tournament.

In the Semi finals, Harshit Sachdev of Electrical Engineering beat Suparth Sharma of Automobile Engineering department and Chinmay Sharma outplayed Kashish Jasrotia of Travel & Tourism Department. In the finals, Chinmay of the Architecture Department remained victorious beating Harshit Sachder of the Electrical Engineering Department.

The Principal applauded all the participants for taking part in the chess tournament. He said student player present in the occasion that “Chess is about making strong moves & sticking to them. In life too, if we plan or do something, we need to make sure to stand on our ground and fight for what we think is better for us”. He appreciated the efforts of all the HOD’s, Sports Secretary for the coordinated effort to organize such events.

The Tournament was organized by Amit Kumar Sharma Sports Secretary, Chamel Singh PEM and Toshi Devi PET. The Committee for the tournament included Er. Manjeet Singh HOD Electrical, Er. Rishabh Gupta Lecturer Mechanical Engg and  Rakesh Khullar Instructor.
