IUST hosts Himalayan Meet of Astronomers 2023

AWANTIPORA: Prof Shakil Ahmad Romshoo , Vice chancellor Islamic University of Science and Technology inaugurated Himalayan Meet of Astronomers, at IUST.

The two-day programme being jointly organized by IUST and Kashmir University in collaboration with Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics, IUCAA, Pune and Central University of Himachal Pradesh aims to bring researchers from Northern India together to discuss the recent developments, opportunities and challenges in the field of Astronomy and Astrophysics.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Shakil Ahmad Romshoo complimented the organizers and said that collaboration among scientists paves the way for cutting edge research. He said Chandriyan 2 and Aditya Programmes are a testament of India’s accomplishments in Space sciences and engineering.

Dean Academic Affairs, Prof Manzoor Ahmad Malik, said that science is committed to unravelling the mysteries of space. He said exploring space is a daunting but exciting task. Prof Naseer Iqbal said that the workshop would provide an opportunity to the Scientists and Scholars to share their research outcomes and explore potential for collaborations.

Head Department of Physics IUST, Dr. Niyaz Ahmad Rather briefed the participants about the research being undertaken at Physics Department IUST. Prof Ranjeev Mishra, Coordinator HMA, IUCAA discussed IUCAA’s role in promoting Astronomy and Astrophysics in India.
