UDHAMPUR: Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, Saloni Rai today flagged off a group of 50 farmers for a Capacity Building Programme under Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP).
The objective of this tour is to familiarize farmers with the latest horticultural techniques and skills aimed at improving fruit crop production and productivity, aligning with the Prime Minister’s goal of doubling farmers’ income.
During her interaction with the farmers, the Deputy Commissioner underscored the significance of such initiatives, emphasizing the role of new technologies in addressing challenges in the horticulture sector and enhancing economic prosperity, especially in rural areas.
Rajinder Kumar, Chief Horticulture Officer Udhampur, shared further insights with the farmers, explaining that programs like this under HADP aim to raise awareness about various aspects, including nursery development, orchard management, mother block and rootstock bank establishment, hi-tech cultivation, and micro-irrigation techniques. He encouraged farmers to embrace scientific technologies over traditional methods to boost the horticulture sector in Udhampur District.
The event also featured the presence of Horticulture Development Officer Chenani, Rajesh Gupta, Horticulture Development Officer Udhampur, Ravinder Kumar, and other department officials.
