DDC Pulwama reviews functioning of MC Pulwama; also interacts with its elected members

PULWAMA: The District Development Commissioner (DDC) Pulwama, Dr. Basharat Qayoom Wednesday interacted with the elected members of Municipal Council (MC) Pulwama and also reviewed the functioning of Municipal Council Pulwama in a meeting held at Circuit House, Pulwama.

During the meeting, DDC sought detailed information of various sectors and schemes implemented through MC Pulwama. 

Executive Officer, MC Pulwama, Owais Ahmad gave a detailed presentation during the meeting and informed about the assets in the MC Pulwama, types of various levies and fee charged, expenditure made during 2021, 2022 & 2023 under various schemes, achievements under Solid Waste Management etc.

The scenario of centrally sponsored schemes PMAY-U, PM SVANidhi, AMRUT along with status of FC grant, IDMT works, UDS and MTMP works were also discussed during the review meeting.

The DDC was further informed that land measuring 08 kanals have already been identified at Newa for establishment of Solid & Liquid Waste Facility for which preparation of detailed Project report is under process in PW(R&B) department and 2000 No. of Dustbins have already been distributed among various households of the Municipality.

Regarding the ban on Single Use Plastic, it was informed that blanket ban has been imposed and surprise market checks are being carried to ensure implementation.

Dr Basharat also interacted with the Elected Members of MC Pulwama to get feedback about functioning of MC Pulwama and implementation of various developmental schemes and also sought details about issues and problems being faced by people and mechanism for redressal of the same.

President MC, Bilal Rather highlighted the issues regarding encroachment of paths on the road side, shortage of drinking water and renovation of Dhobi Khul and sought immediate attention for redressal of these.

The DDC directed the I&FC department in collaboration with Municipality, Revenue, Traders federation, and youth, to conduct a mass drive for clearance of Dhobi Kul. The Executive Engineer (I&FC) Division Pulwama was directed to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for rejuvenation of Dhob Kul.

Directions were passed on to the President Traders Union that shops and establishments in the town shall pay Rs. 200 per month as user-cum- sanitary charges and shall settle the issue of Revision of Rent amicably in 2 weeks time.

The DDC appreciated the work of MC Pulwama for applying for ODF(+) certification under Swachh Survekshan 2022 and reiterated that providing civic amenities and a clean environment is the main job of Municipalities and with the help of elected members and support from District Administration they can achieve success in doing so.

The meeting was attended by the President, Municipal Council Pulwama; Executive Engineer, R&B; Executive Engineer Jal Shakti Department; Executive Engineer, JKPDCL; Executive Engineer, Irrigation and FC; Tehsildar, Pulwama; Assistant Regional Transport Officer.

Besides, President, Traders Federation Pulwama, District President Kashmir Chambers of Commerce and Industries also attended the meeting.
