Meeting aims at strengthening PACS as Vibrant Economic Entities in Baramulla: Dr Sehrish
BARAMULLA: In order to increase the viability of PACS and diversify their business activities to make them vibrant economic entities at village level, a meeting of District Level Cooperative Development Committee (DCDC) today met at DC Office Complex here under the chairmanship of District Collector/ District Development Commissioner Baramulla, Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar.
Additional District Development Commissioner Aijaz Abdullah Saraf; Deputy Registrar Cooperative Baramulla, Mohammad Arif Shah; Chief Executive Officer, Zila Panchayat, Additional District Magistrate (Revenue), Officers of Agriculture, Food and Civil Supplies, Animal Husbandry departments besides representatives of concerned departments were present in the meeting.
The meeting was held to chalk out a comprehensive Action Plan for extending Multipurpose Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society (PACS) and Dairy/Fishery Primary Cooperative Societies covering all panchayat segments and villages in the district.
During the meeting, it was informed that there are a total of 31 PACS in the district wherein 32246 members are associated covering all the panchayat halqas of the district. It was also given out that a total number of Cooperatives registered till date stands at 83.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sehrish deliberated on the objectives of the meeting and appealed to the committee members to lend their best efforts to achieve the objective of strengthening the cooperative movement and deepening its reach to the grassroots level as envisaged by the Union Ministry of Cooperation.
She called for making primary agriculture credit societies (PACS) as vibrant economic entities thereby achieving the goal of Sehkar Se Samridhi.
Further, the DC also exhorted upon the departments to ensure dovetailing of various schemes of Government of India at the level of PACS or primary diary/ fishery cooperative societies with the support of Registrar of cooperative societies.
Moreover, the DC exhorted upon the departmental heads and other committee members to coordinate with the DRCS to finalize setting up PACS from agriculture, dairy, fisheries and to support in providing infrastructure and other logistics to form new PACS at panchayat and village levels.
