IIT Kharagpur faculty delivers special lecture on ‘Intellectual Property Management’ at KU

SRINAGAR: The School of Law, University of Kashmir on Thursday organised a special lecture on ‘Patinformatics and Intellectual Property Management’ to enhance the understanding of the varsity’s students about the IPRs and their significance in today’s world.

Dr Gauri Ashok Gargate, a renowned IP expert from IIT Kharagpur, delivered the lecture which was attended by faculty members and students of the School of Law and experts from Institute of Technology Zakura Campus, Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE), NewGen-IEDC and Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Technology, KU.

Dr Gauri explained the importance of protecting intellectual property and the potential risks associated with infringement. She kept the audience engaged throughout the lecture as she shared real-life examples and case studies to illustrate the practical implications of Intellectual Property Rights. She also highlighted the global nature of Patents.

The lecture was followed by a panel discussion on ‘Emerging Issues in Intellectual Property Rights”. The session was chaired by Dean Research, KU, Prof Irshad Ahmad Nawchoo as the chief guest.

Prof Mohammad Hussain, Head and Dean, School of Law highlighted the implications of patenting medical and diagnostic techniques and stressed on the need of reconciling rights of innovators with larger public interest.

Prof M Tariq Banday, Head, Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Technology discussed issues pertaining to protection of IP rights in the changing technological scenario.

The event was coordinated by Dr Mir Junaid Alam, and the proceedings were conducted by Dr Iftikhar Hussain Bhat.
