Director Horticulture launches Fruit Plantation drive in District Samba

SAMBA: To promote the plantation of fruit plants amid Rainy season, especially in the sub-tropical areas of Jammu Division,  Director Horticulture  Jammu  Ram Sevak,  today launched plantation process in District Samba by planting a sapling of Lime plant for compact plantation over an  area of 20 kanal of a farmer at village  Jatwal of Horticulture zone Gagwal  .

  Chief Horticulture Officer Samba, Mukesh Sharma, Horticulture Development Officer Gagwal , PRI members and farmers were also present.

Interacting with the farmers, the Director stressed the need to encourage High Density Plantation in the area. He said that the rainy season is most suitable for new plantations, especially in the Kandi area and the farmers should adopt a cluster approach to establish new orchards.

The department is providing all assistance to the farmers on different components viz:  Protected cultivation, Water harvesting tanks, Bore wells, Drip irrigation system, Vermicompost units, Strawberry plantation, Mechanized farming, Tools / implements etc. and they should take all the benefits for upliftment of their socio- economic status. 

He also briefed the farmers about the newly launched Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) providing incentives / assistance for the welfare of the farming community. He said that keeping in view the suitable agro-climatic conditions, there is immense potential for horticulture crops in the area which must be tapped.
