DSC discusses skill development plan for district Doda

Training of youth in Hospitality, Agro Industry, Tourism sectors stressed upon

DODA: District Development Commissioner Doda, Vishesh Mahajan, who is also Chairman of the District Skill Committee  (DSC), today chaired a meeting of the Committee members here in the Meeting hall of DC office complex to discuss the skill aspirations of the unemployed youth, availability of the opportunities and resources in the district.

At the outset, the Chairman was briefed about the District Skill Plan and the Youth Skill Development courses being offered in different institutions in the district. Manujender Singh, who is Mahatma National Gandhi Fellow (MGNF) for District Doda, presented a detailed report on objectives and plan of action for Skill up-gradation and handholding of Skilled youth in the district.

He also presented the sketch of courses run under PMKVY 4.0 by Government and private institutes in the district.

Chairman stressed on the up-skilling of the youth in Hospitality, Tourism, Agriculture Product Processing and other market linked courses.

DC has instructed the GM DIC/ DD Employment to conduct a career counselling session/ interaction of the youth to know the expectations of the unemployed people and give them information on the available resources/ opertunities. He informed that District Administration is working on creating the tourism industry in the district to create an opertunity for the youth as well as to promote local tourist places, cultural heritage, and traditions of the district.

DC was informed that the ITI Doda has successfully completed the training course on Tunnelling Techniques.

It was decided in the meeting that a batch of 30 persons shall be trained in Hospitality by RSETI soon. Horticulture and Agri and allied sectors shall give hands-on work to the people at Malan (Dessa), Goa (Marmat), Gandoh, and Bhaderwah for processing of the agri-products from next month onwards.

The meeting also discussed the District Skill Plan, and the suggestions/ comments have been sought from the members for its finalisation. DC urged the members to make the District Skill Plan in consonance with the local demands, available resources, and educational qualifications of the youth.

He directed  the heads of all the ITIs and Principal Polytechnic College Doda to ensure the practical exposure of trainees to the industries and business units so that they remain updated with the latest technologies and can be able to fit in their  job profile for better earning of livelihood.

DC has asked the concerned to send the batches to the IITs and IIMs for the better upskilling of the youth for their future endeavours. DC also pitched for short-term courses in Health sector and Banking sector keeping in view of their demand in the society. He also asked all the departments involved in providing Skill training to take up only relevant courses

The meeting was attended by ADC Doda, CPO Doda, GM DIC Doda, CAO Doda, DSHO, DSWO Doda, DIO Doda, Functional Manager DIC Doda, Principal Polytechnic Doda, Superintendent ITI Doda and Bhaderwah, LBM, Zonal Officer JK Bank, Director RSETI, MGNF and representatives of the line departments.
