POONCH: The NSS unit of Government Degree College Surankote today embarked on a field trip to City Forest Poonch as part of the ongoing five day international workshop on Environment Protection, under the aegis of Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav.
The event was inaugurated by the College Principal, Prof Dr. Rani Mughal, who flagged off the enthusiastic students.
The City Forest Poonch is a remarkable man-made forest that owes its flourishing existence to the late Mohammed Bashir Mughal sahib, a retired DFO and former President of Pir Panjal Environment and Eco Development Society, Jammu & Kashmir.
The forest is a testament to late officer’s dedication and commitment to preserving the environment. His efforts have resulted in a thriving ecosystem that provides numerous benefits to the local community, including improved air quality, increased biodiversity, and a natural habitat for wildlife.
During the enlightening tour, the students gained invaluable insights into the crucial role of forests in safeguarding our environment. The officials at Poonch City Forest highlighted various government schemes aimed at raising awareness about environmental protection.
The students were accompanied by NSS officer Prof. Khaleeq Qazi, Head of the Department of Chemistry, Dr. Syed Ovais, and Head of the Department of Political Science, Prof. Fatima Bi. The students absorbed knowledge while enjoying a memorable day in nature’s embrace.
