Calls for conducting regular checking drives on Highway, link Roads 

RAMBAN:  District Magistrate, Ramban, Mussarat Islam today chaired the meeting of District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) to review the implementation of road safety measures to minimize road accidents, spreading awareness about road safety, safety audit and improvement of roads in the district.

Among others, the meeting was attended by Additional SP, Gourav Mahajan; CPO, Dr. Kasturi Lal; ARTO, Samrinder Singh; Chief Education Officer, Devanand; Executive Engineers PWD and PMGSY, and officers form National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), besides other Committee members.

The DM directed Traffic Police, and NHAI to keep close check on speeding and violation of traffic rules and take strict actions against the violators in coordination with the Motor Vehicle Department. He also directed them to install CCTV cameras at all vulnerable locations and install lights to tackle emergency situations. 

The PWD and PMGSY departments were asked to conduct an annual road audit and submit the report while the ARTO was asked to conduct checking drives on National Highway and link roads across the district especially to check plying of oversized vehicles. He also directed the concerned to provide road accident data every month. 

Stressing the need for organizing awareness camps regarding road safety by the health and education departments, the DM directed all the stakeholders to upload the data on the IRAD portal immediately after the road accident by visiting the place of occurrence to maintain the essence and utility of the application.

The NHAI was asked to fill potholes on existing National Highway, and install signage to keep the commuters aware about the latest status of the highway. The DM also asked the concerned to promote e-Rikshas on suitable link roads in the district for the convenience of the general public. 

The DM directed the executive authorities of Municipal Council and Committees of district to take strict action against the wrong parking to decongest the road of the towns, besides removing unauthorized hoardings.

Earlier, ARTO Ramban informed about the initiatives taken to curb the menace of over-speeding, over-charging, wrong parking, drunken driving, under age driving etc on NHW and other link roads of the district.
