4.2-magnitude earthquake hits Lebanon

BEIRUT: A 4.2-magnitude earthquake in eastern and northern Lebanon on Wednesday evening sent residents running out of their homes into the streets.

Lebanon’s National Centre of Geophysics reported the quake struck at 8.58pm (1858 GMT), about 5km from the town of Hermel, not far from the Syrian border, reported the German Press Agency (dpa).

There was no immediate word on the damage or casualties.

The quake was felt by residents as far as the capital, Beirut, and many people also ran out of their homes in the port city of Tripoli.
