WASHINGTON: In a first for California, two government schools in the Silicon Valley will be introducing Hindi as a world language in its school curriculum. The decision to introduce Hindi as an optional subject was welcomed by the large Indian American community at Fremont that has been seeking to have their children learn Hindi in schools.

Fremont has one of the highest concentrations of Indian Americans in California. The Fremont Unified School District Board voted 4-1 vote on January 17 to launch a pilot programme for the 2024-2025 school year that starts in August.
